FRED OLSON
HAMILTON LAKES - Fred W. Olson age 88 of Hamilton Lakes, died Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI.
He was born on October 15, 1921 in Iron River, MI the son of the late Anton and Amie (Nash) Olsen.
Fred served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Bataan.
He married Catherine Valley on May 24, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan.
Fred worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a telegrapher and station agent for 32 years, retiring in December of 1981.
He was a member of the Iron River American Legion Post.
Fred is survived by his wife Catherine; son Dean Olsen of Iron Mountain; daughters Sharon Burtrum of Grand Rapids and Janet West of Greenville; grandsons Chad and Scott Burtrum; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his five brothers Richard, Tommy, Howard, Robert and Lester “Bud” Olsen; his five sisters Lillian and Emily Olsen, Bea Domina, Gladys Delinski and Glenna Slevoski.
At Fred’s request there will be no funeral services at this time, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
